Two-year starter. Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year this past season, First-team All- Mountain West in 2023. Team captain. His 135 tackles were the fourth most in the country in 2024. Aligned as an off-ball linebacker in the box with a solid frame to work with. He is the leader of the defense making all checks and audibles before the play. Fluid mover in space with notable lateral agility and quick feet. Demonstrates an understanding of run concepts and his responsibilities. Scrapes tight to the line-of-scrimmage and locates the ball carriers through traffic to maintain leverage and meet them in the gap. An assertive downhill player willing to get the dirty work done in the trenches. Assertive when taking on blocks from linemen and will slip underneath with quickness. In zone coverage he follows the quarterback’s eyes to get into throwing lanes. Able to match running backs and less athletic tight ends in man coverage. Impeccable ball skills; excellent at tracking the ball in the air and is exceptional at getting his hands in throwing lanes to pick off or break up passes. Violence on contact and explosiveness makes him an enticing option as a blitzer. Loses his balance when changing direction in space. Aggressive play-style can make him step into the wrong gap. Can lose sight of running backs and scrape too far out of the picture. Some strength limitations and tackling technique allow runners to get considerable yards-after-contact. Needs to run through contact more regularly rather than dive for legs.
2024 Stats: 135 T, 17 TFL, 3.5 sacks, 12 PBU, 5 QBH, 4 INT, 1 FR (1 TD). BP-21. Draft projection: 4th/5th round
