2025 Guide: What Ourlads’ NFL Scouting Services said about NATE MATLACK:
Pittsburgh | Hometown: Olathe, KS | HT: 6045 | WT: 254 | 40 time: 4.75 | Hand: 1014 | Arm: 3318 | Wing: 7938
Three-year starter. Transfer from Kansas State prior to the 2024 season. Aligned at either defensive end position in Pitt’s four-down fronts, generally as a five-technique. Tall, slim edge prospect with long arms. Natural bend in his extremities when he gets in his stance. Exceptional explosiveness upfield who accelerates in a hurry to immediately pressure the quarterback. Beats tackles to a point with long strides and connects with low pad level. Uses his speed to get tackles to overset to give him space inside to slant. Crosses face in a flash with great lateral agility and quick feet. Flashes ability to snatch linemen to win when engaged. Creates extension with a long arm to stay square on the edge against the run. High effort player in pursuit. Size, length, speed, and athletic ability will be enticing to work with at the next level. Needs to see more consistency with his hand usage on engagement, and doesn’t generate a ton of power on contact. Hips are stiff and struggles to bend when he gets past the tackle on the edge. Lacks defined pass rush moves when he is unable to win with speed outside. Liability against the run. Gets bullied on the interior when he stunts or slants inside, and will get thrown into the dirt regularly. Can get completely washed out of the play against the run against both linemen and tight ends. Needs to come off the field on the goal line as he struggles to anchor and hold his own in the trenches.
2024 Stats: 22 T, 7.5 TFL, 5 sacks, 3 PBU, 8 QBH, 1 FF. Draft projection: 7th round/PFA
