2024 Guide: What Ourlads’ NFL Scouting Services said about JAYLEN HARRELL:
Michigan | HT: 6036 | WT: 250 | 40 time: 4.63 | Arm: 3314 | Hand: 0934 | Wing: 8118
Three year starter. Honorable mention All-Big 10 the last three seasons. Has the desired height and length for an edge defender. Son of former NFL player James Harrell. Was a rotational stand up player on the edge with occasional pass coverage duties. In that role he uses his length to stress the throwing lane and cause hesitation by quarterbacks. Athletic, he has solid lateral agility and can chase to the perimeter in the run game. Can also sift inside and make plays in line. Flashes quick hands to create initial separation to slip blocks on the move. Has developed a variety of pass rush moves including a quick inside counter off an outside rush and a spin move after a wide get off. Has improved as a pass rusher and that will have to continue if he is to make a team. Has shown excellent tackling skill with ability to make plays in space. Reacts well to shifty backs on the perimeter and can drive through and finish tackles. Lacks ideal power and can be turned out or knocked off the ball by a powerful tight end. Flashed quickness at the snap but he’s inconsistent and shows occasional hesitation engaging tackles. Lacks the power necessary to win against physical tackles. He has the athletic ability you look for and may have to play in a scheme where he will be more of a linebacker than edge defender. Has enough talent to work with and should be a developmental prospect.
