UCLA | HT: 5117 | WT: 225 | 40 time: 4.70 | Arm: 3112 | Hand: 0912 | Wing: 7434
Two-year starter at UCLA. Transferred from Hawaii in 2022 after starting two years there. Second-team All-Pac 12 in 2023. Has a compact muscular build. Played Mike in the UCLA defense and was the definition of heart in his approach to the game. Incredible motor he’s a downhill linebacker who throws his body into the action. Has instincts for inside run fits and is quick on initial read and react. Excellent key diagnose, he can read the triangle in blocking schemes and slip underneath angle and straight up blocks to make plays inline. Quick reads gets him downhill, fitting inside gaps. Aggressive taking on blocks he flashes ability to use his hands to stun and separate on the move. Plays tough for his size. Remarkable ability to locate the ball in the trash. Sudden to scrape to the alley he can beat blocks with quickness and square up a tackle. Short area agility is excellent and he can cover in the short zones or carry a back to the flat. Has made some big hits peeling on outlet releases. Has solid gather and drive through tackling skill but powerful backs can run through a tackle he’s pursuing. Can be overaggressive and lose ball side leverage in pursuit allowing cutbacks. As plays are extended to the perimeter his angles to the ball can be inconsistent and can under run. Depth on spot drops to work the throwing lane is inconsistent. Has trouble with climbing blockers and can get knocked around. He will go back door on climbing blocks at times with mixed results. He’s light and short for the position but too productive to ignore. Should have backup and special team value.
