Three-year starter. Second-team All-SEC selection last fall. Aligns as the field safety in one-high and two-high coverages, and will play in the box or the middle-of-the-field defender in three-safety packages. Possesses solid height and marginal weight with a thin frame. An above-average athlete with quality foot quickness and agility. Smooth backpedal when gaining depth. Sufficient foot speed and man technique to carry slots vertical. Quick processing speed as a deep defender to read quarterback intentions while recognizing route concepts and adjusting swiftly. Weaves with quarterback and opens up quickly with rapid change-of-direction. Great range as a true sideline-to-sideline defender with considerable tracking skills. Excellent transition speed; plants foot in the ground in a flash before blasting downhill like a cannonball. Great ball skills help him track and play the ball in the air; able to play the ball with his back to the quarterback. Physical at the catchpoint and will punch balls out of receivers’ hands. Takes excellent angles to the ball carrier towards the sideline. Leaves too big of a cushion in off-man coverage, and gives up leverage easily. Fringe functional strength to jam receivers at the line-of-scrimmage and hold them up. Gets bullied by tight ends and bigger wide receivers blocking him. Misfits the run regularly when coming down in support. Allows significant yards-after-contact when making tackles; slim frame hinders his ability to finish.
