Two year starter at Louisville after starting a year at Florida State. Transferred in 2022. Energetic corner with a compact frame. Most often played the boundary corner but also worked inside as a slot corner. Experienced with press and off man along with outside zone concepts. As a press corner, shows quick lateral movement to not give up leverage. Flashes a physical two hand jam on the release. Mirrors route breaks consistently and can stay in phase throughout the route. Also effective with press and bail, getting into a lateral shuffle/run at the snap. In off coverage he varied depths using a flat foot read or lateral shuffle pedal. Vision as a zone defender, is solid from a lateral run as he picks up deep crossers and normally balances overlapping zones. Quick plant and drive with the ball in the air in front of him. Has enough speed to stay with most vertical routes. Aggressive run defender, he uses his hands to strike blockers and is quick to slip the block on the move. Tackles well in space with forceful drive through tackles but will let a ball carrier slip through at times. Shorter than ideal arms is a factor. Transitions in off coverage are inconsistent and at times segmented wasted steps creates separation on route breaks. Inconsistent cushion can allow a speed receiver to run by him. Lacks ideal recovery speed and can’t make up the step needed at times. Locating the ball in phase can be a problem as he can be slow to get his head around. Brownlee has improved and still has upside. Projects to a nickel/backup and will battle for a roster spot.
