Four year starter. Second-team All-Big 10 in 2023. Decent height but shorter than ideal arms and wing span. Played off and press man along with deep outside zone concepts. Keeps receivers off balance in press man with either reactive press or two hand jam. Can stun a receiver at the line with a physical stab. Excellent mirror ability off the line, he plays tight to the man and stays in phase throughout the route. Rarely gives up leverage and can accelerate to stay with route breaks. In off coverage, shows a quick shuffle pedal and normally plays with solid spacing. Has lateral agility to react to inside cuts and can undercut a route break. As a zone defender has vision to see multiple threats and the quarterback’s intentions. Adept at reading and reacting to the delivery key. He can control intermediate routes in the outside third and quickly break on shallow throws to underneath receivers. Willing in run support, he gets in position to play off blocks and make tackles. Flashes tackling skill but is inconsistent as he fails to wrap up at times and can whiff. At times he lets cushion break and is slow to react allowing a receiver to run by him. Lacks great recovery speed and can get grabby in those situations and prone to penalties. Long speed and length are a concern, but he has redeeming qualities. A team that plays a lot of zone and press will look at him as depth with a future.
