2024 Guide: What Ourlads’ NFL Scouting Services said about RAY DAVIS:
Kentucky | HT: 5083 | WT: 211 | 40 time: 4.52 | Arm: 3014 | Hand: 0878 | Wing: 7214
Three-year starter with stops at three different programs. All-SEC in 2023. A multi-sport athlete in high school, he began his career at Temple. Transferred to Vanderbilt in 2021 and played in three games before suffering a season ending knee injury. Bounced back in 2022, finishing fourth in the SEC in rushing. Ended his career at Kentucky in 2023, where he once again finished fourth in the conference in rushing. Davis is a natural back who uses vision, anticipation, and timing to set himself up for success. He knows the mental side of the game well and it shows up in multiple areas, not just running with the ball. Hungry for yards and will fight for every inch. The ability to make defenders miss with late movement and deceptive tempo will translate well at the next level. His feel and short area burst will work especially well in a zone-heavy attack. Also shows prowess as a pass catcher and can add value to the return game as well. This is a complete back that is built for the NFL in several ways. Stocky, maxed out frame. Carries weight with ease but is light and fast below the waist. Lowers his pads late and plays with contact balance and foresight. Knows how to leverage space and blockers. Will play the role of aggressor but understands patience to allow things to develop. Ball protection is strong. Runs routes like a receiver and knows how to set up defenders. Will run too high between the tackles at times. Does not have a lot of shake laterally. Jump cuts are average at best. Impact as a blocker is limited and has a well-below average frame.
2023 Stats: 1129 yds, 5.7 ypc, 14 TD, 33 rec, 323 yds, 9.8 ypr, 7 TD. OSR:18/23. Draft projection: 3rd/4th round
