Four-year starter. Transfer from West Virginia prior to the 2023 season. All-Big 12 honorable mention in 2022. Typically aligned as the zero-tech in odd fronts, and as a 2i in even fronts. Possesses solid height and fringe weight with decent arm length. A true nose tackle who gets the dirty work done in the trenches. Great upfield burst at the snap of the ball with a lightning quick first step. Comes off with low pad level and fires quick hands to engage in an instant. His explosiveness and violent engagement allow him to manhandle linemen into the backfield with excellent leverage. Quick swim move to defeat blocks at the line. Holds his own versus double teams with an impressive anchor and good body control. When he feels contact from a second blocker, he transitions his weight well to maintain his mass in the gap. When head-up, keeps hips square when engaged and uses considerable lateral agility to maintain leverage. Able to contort his body on awkward angles with notable bend in his waist to maintain his balance. Slants into gaps with quick feet and agility to fill lanes. Gets his hands up to bat down passes when he stalls out. Powerful tackler who will slam ball carriers into the dirt. Inconsistent hand placement on engagement and must learn to work them inside. Gets limited extension when attempting to shed blocks. Gets reached too often as he is a step slow when reacting to different blocking schemes. Has a bad habit of spinning out of his gap occasionally on double teams leaving wide open running lanes. Minimal value in pass rush and is mostly used just to push the pocket. Must develop hand usage in pass rush. He comes out of the game regularly on high percentage passing downs. Not the traditional body type for a run-stuffing nose tackle.
