Junior entry, one year starter. Athletic corner with a solid frame for the position. Versatile in coverage, he’s played outside cover three and quarters along with hard corner and off-man. Aligned as the field corner and also played the overhang position as a nickel. He has shown press man skill in limited reps as strong hands allow him to reroute and run with the receiver. In off coverage, mixes a lateral shuffle pedal with a straight pedal. Comes out low with precise patient footwork to maintain cushion. Times transitions well to stay in phase going from pedal to lateral to turn and run on vertical release. Disciplined fundamentals he rarely gives up leverage within the coverage and in man keeps focus on the receiver. As a zone defender, flashes the ability to balance multiple routes in zone and has vision to see the quarterback and receivers. Closes voids well as both an outside corner and slot. As a hard corner he’s physical with two hand jam to disrupt the release. In man coverage, fluid hips are evident as he stays in phase through the route and matches double moves. In both off-man and zone he is quick with plant and drive on underneath throws and can knock a ball out at the catch point. Aggressive in run support, he can take on blocks with strong hands and shed to make a play on the perimeter. Flashes tackling skill with physical gather and drive. At times is over aggressive and ends up diving and missing the tackle. In phase he fails to locate the ball as he plays the hands even in good position. As a result, big receivers can go up and get it. Still developing, but skills are there for both outside corner and nickel.
