Four-year starter. All-Big 12 all four seasons of his career, first team in 2023 and 2022 and a third team All-America in 2023. A four-time heavyweight wrestling state champion in high school, he finished with a career 159-2 record and set a school record with 54 career starts on the gridiron. Predominantly played center for the Mountaineers, but he did start nine games at guard early in his career. He is the prototype center when it comes to both his physical tool set and intelligence. His squatty frame and fast hands gets him consistent leverage. He plays a step ahead mentally, getting on and staying on defenders. The dependable presence inside should be a year-one starter with a strong likelihood of ending as a long-time leader of an offensive line. Has an incredibly high floor stemming from a well-balanced, near-fully developed skill set. Rapid hands that are constantly latching onto the chest plate of his assignment. Stays on his feet both in-line and in space. Stop and go quickness can handle pro-caliber speed. Stays on his man once he gets there. Plays with a flat back, plays square. Anticipates angles and is always well-prepared. Experienced and intelligent on and off the field. Can hang in any blocking scheme. Shows tightness in his hips when moving laterally immediately post-snap. Does not always reach across the three-technique’s face. Will give too much ground on outside-zone blocking assignments. Struggles to maintain a lockout, will play short at times. Does not always get a vertical push as a drive blocker.
