Redshirt junior entry. Two-year starter. All-SEC in 2022. Winner of the Wuerffel Trophy, a community service-based award combining athletic and academic achievements. McConkey is a slightly built, but quick-footed receiver who creates more than the sum of his parts. He is a refined route runner with a sense of intelligence that is hard to find. Shows a strong understanding of what defenses are trying to do both pre-and post-catch. The amount he can create via doing precisely what he needs to do and then some more via innovation will be a welcomed addition to an offense that has primary weapons already in place. Sleep on a contributor like McConkey and he will carve you up. His tools and upside are likely not enough to be projected to a number one threat, but he can complement one at a high level. Light, explosive footwork in and out of breaks. Can sink and sit with a high level of sharpness. Will create more than enough separation short and intermediate for a quarterback to work with. Can work out of multiple alignments. Trustworthy tempo and accuracy. Security blanket-type. Below average size and strength. Does not play stout against the press. Reliant on playing quicker and more sudden than corners, which may not fly at the next level. Small hands combined with a repeated history of drop issues are a cause for concern. Does not play strong through contact in contested situations.
