2024 Guide: What Ourlads’ NFL Scouting Services said about CALEB WILLIAMS:

USC | HT: 6011 | WT: 214 | 40 time: 4.55 | Arm: 3200 | Hand: 0934 | Wing: 7578

Junior entry, three-year starter. All-Big 12 in 2021 and All-Pac 12 in both 2023 and 2022 after transferring from Oklahoma to USC. Winner of the Heisman Trophy, AP Player of the Year, and Maxwell Award in 2022 after setting a USC single season record for total offense and touchdowns. Williams was a five-star recruit who followed Head Coach Lincoln Riley out west from Oklahoma following his freshman season. Quick and twitchy with a bendy, flexible lower half. Thickly built below the waist to provide sturdiness and balance against contact. The playmaking ability is dripping off the innovative, creative competitor. Magician-like ability to get out of a mess at any time. He can create on his own and there is always a credible threat for the homerun when he touches the ball. Because his offensive line was poor, specifically in 2023, Williams was forced out of structure often. He needed to make up for one of the worst scoring defenses as well, and that combination created bad habits. He tried too hard to play hero-ball and got away from taking what was available initially. While that does make it look good on the highlight reel and it did provide clarity on what he is uniquely capable of, Williams will not get away with most of those circus acts at the next level. NFL defenses are too fast and complex for that. He will need to show he can get back to basic, fundamentally sound football that centers around ball protection and sound decision making. If he applies himself properly and the system around him is strong, the sky truly is the limit for the uber-talented star. Competitive and willing to put himself in the line of fire. Does not go down easy, will break tackles, and found himself throwing blocks downfield multiple times over his career. Creates easy, but powerful torque from his hips as a thrower. Clean release with real velocity on the ball. Elite rotation can be seen on his numerous throws downfield while rolling left. Finds the hole in a pass rush and can evade defenders showing remarkable agility in traffic. Keeps the eyes downfield and will always look to get the ball out of his hands. Can throw on the run from multiple arm slots and makes some incredible extemporaneous throws. Running with the ball is always secondary to throwing. Fully capable of getting the ball to where it needs to be quickly and accurately when things are clean around him. Poor ball protection. Fumbled 33 times over his career. Needs more precise movement against pressure, as footwork gets off balance.Too often running backwards. At times throws the ball into coverage looking for the home run instead of hitting checkdowns or outlets. Needs to take what the defense gives him within the structure of the offense. Will put too much air under the ball on some downfield throws. Decision making is inconsistent and that partially stems from his processing and consistency with it. Ability to win from the pocket routinely is unknown.
