Ourlads' Profile:
2022 Guide: What Ourlads’ NFL Scouting Services said about MARQUAN MCCALL:
Kentucky, 6024 342 5.35. One-year starter, Detroit, MI. Was one of the team’s main run defenders over the final three seasons of his career. McCall is a niche defender that only fits into the 3-4 front where he can two-gap against the run. Not athletic enough to factor as a pass rusher beyond the upfield bulldozing. His mass and energy can impact the game in specific situations, but there is too much liability when it comes to his conditioning, loose weight, and lack of lateral suddenness to be considered a starting caliber player. Tremendous girth and power off the ball. Swallows up space and blockers with the ability to man two gaps inside. Uses his size to bully interior blockers and relishes the role. Mobile enough to factor as a rangy run defender between the tackles. Can get off his man and show a quick short area burst to redirect or take down the ball carrier. Plays with enough twitch against the inside run. Will maintain upward movement as a bull rusher to shorten the pocket against a lone blocker. Lethargic mover the further into space he gets. Won’t catch even the slowest pocket passers down from behind. Rarely found impacting the play away from the point of attack. Poor conditioning and it shows up when the opposing offense goes into hurry up mode. Minimal impact as a pass rusher.
