Massive, thick interior defensive lineman who projects best as a one-tech in a 4-3 one-gap scheme, but can also play zero-tech and two-gap in 3-4 fronts. Quick to react to the snap of the ball. His functional strength and anchor as a run defender are what stand out about his game. Strong at the point-of-attack, and will completely stalemate offensive lineman on base blocks. Possesses an exceptional anchor that allows him to negate double-teams and stand his ground in his gap. Shows a quick processor to recognize blocking schemes and exploit them. Versus zone, will lag and fall back into backside gap when two-gapping where he can split offensive linemen with powerful hands. While he reacts well to the ball, displays fringe burst off the line-of-scrimmage to make ground in his initial steps and engage with the offensive lineman efficiently. Considerable foot speed in pursuit despite his size. His thick frame hinders his athletic ability and hip fluidity. Fringe lateral agility when attempting to corner, flip his hips, and get in the backfield. Struggles to shift gaps when stunting. Plays with high pad level and gets stood up easily, can cause him to get knocked off the line-of-scrimmage. Struggles to create extension and disengage from blocks versus run and pass. A non-factor in pass rush who struggles to create penetration in the backfield. Lacks creativity as a pass rusher and does not show a consistent plan going into every snap. A situational run defender who needs to improve his pass rush ability and athleticism in order to be an every-down player in the NFL.
