Redshirt sophomore entry, Long Beach, CA. Honorable mention All-Pac 12 in 2022. Long corner with ideal height for the position. Played a variety of techniques in off and press man along with outside zone coverage. At his best as an outside zone defender with excellent vision to process multiple routes. In off coverage usually plays with a big cushion and has a smooth pedal. Times his turn and run to stay in phase at the route stem. Quickly flips his hips on zone or man turns. Has a knack for closing voids in overlapping zones and finding the throwing lane. Positions well on high low routes creating indecision by quarterbacks. As a press corner shows a quick off hand stab to disrupt the release. Is solid to mirror most route breaks. Has ball skills with a quick plant and drive and feel for the catch point. Can close on the throwing lane and high point interception opportunities. Is willing in run support but goes low on too many tackles and has some bad misses. He’s too easily washed out on stalk blocks. As a man defender has problems with shifty receivers and will over run a route break at times. Lateral reactions can be segmented creating separation on a double move. Seems to lack a fifth gear and can let a receiver run by him at times. Recovery ability is inconsistent. Needed the big cushion against certain receivers. Has potential in a zone heavy scheme but will need development.
