Ourlads' Profile:
2019 Guide: What Ourlads' NFL Scouting Services said about MONTEZ SWEAT: Mississippi State, 6056 260 4.41. Two year starter from Stone Mountain GA. A transfer from Michigan State where he spent his freshman and part of his sophomore year. Had some off-field issues and played a season at Copiah-Lincoln Junior College. He appears to have matured a lot since then. Tall lanky prospect who has played both 3-4 outside linebacker and 4-3 defensive end. Projects well to 3-4 as a pro. Shows good quickness at the snap and uses his hands well to work through a block. Quick with his punch and can keep blockers off him on the move. Has elite speed and length to flatten around the corner and close on the quarterback. Shows quick bend and squeeze versus a blocker and has a decent variety of moves. Counters well and can slip a block and close quickly on the quarterback. The range is there when he chases across the field and he gathers well to make plays in space. Closing speed is extraordinary. Has the aptitude to be solid in coverage from the edge. Length gets his hands in the throwing lane. Sudden to react when peeling on a flat route. Not often used in coverage but has the tools. Lacks bulk to consistently hold up at the point of attack. Versus a powerful blocker can get locked up. Can be slow to shed with the play at him as he can lose leverage. Not as good moving laterally and is a little mechanical changing directions. He has the athletic tools to project to a 3-4 outside backer or 4-3 end but could use some more bulk on his frame at the next level. His tools are coveted by teams looking to upgrade the pass rush. Has the speed of a wide receiver and the pass rush skill of an elite prospect. 2018 stats: 53 T, 14 TFL, 11.5 sacks, 7 QBH, 1 FF. Edge speed:left 1.96, right 1.89. OSR:1/31. First round. (A-35 3/4, H-10 1/2, BP-21, 10-1.58).
