Ourlads' Profile:

2020 Guide: What Ourlads' Scouting Services said about MYKAL WALKER: Fresno State, 6030 230 4.65. Two-year starter, Sacramento, CA. First-team All-Mountain West the last two seasons. Transferred from Division II Asuza Pacific in 2017 and redshirted. Was first-team all-conference as a sophomore at Azusa. Versatile with experience inside and outside. Used as an edge rusher early in his career and at times was used there this season as well. Played all over the defense last fall - lining up inside, over a slot, or on the edge. New to the inside linebacker spot. Flashed downhill ability with hand use to work through blocks and find the ball. Uses long arms to get separation and shed a tight end block. Shows chase ability getting to the perimeter. Has a closing burst. Tackles with knee bend and wrap to finish. Effective inside blitzer with ability to slip an interior lineman’s block and close in the backfield. Shows ability to drop in the short zones and flip his hips to close voids and get in the throwing lane. Reads the quarterback and receivers and balances route combinations. Has speed to match backs on quick flat releases. Solid edge rusher with first step quickness and footwork to get around the corner. Lacks the bulk of a full-time end and he is still a work in progress at inside linebacker. Shows some hesitation on his read at times and doesn’t always flow aggressively to the ball. Can be a little mechanical and upright changing direction in space. Could be more physical attacking blocks as he can get moved out. Consistently makes plays in punt coverage and offers solid special teams play. He projects as a versatile backup who could eventually start. Shrine Bowl notes: Showed his versatility playing on the edge and inside. Instinctive reacting in the box, getting downhill, and fitting inside gaps. Had quick hands to shed blocks on the move. Instinctive reacting while taking good angles in pursuit. Also worked over a tight end and was quick to shed. Displayed range in coverage and solid reactions on the throw. 2019 stats: 96 T, 9 TFL, 2.5 sacks, 4 PBU, 4 QBH, 1 FF. Edge speed:left 2.18, right 2.12. OSR:14/51. Fourth/fifth round. (A-32 1/2, H-10, BP-20, SS-4.25).
