Ourlads' Profile:

2017 Guide: What Ourlads' NFL Scouting Services said about CONOR MCDERMOTT: UCLA, 6081 305 5.18. Three-year starter from Nashville, TN. Two-time second-team All- Pac 12. Will mirror the speed rushers up the field. Very good second level blocker who takes consistent and proper angles. Good frame that can handle more bulk weight and still should be able to maintain upper tier movement ability. Stays on his feet. Occupies and drives the upfield rusher. Mirrors rusher with his hands on the breast plate. Can also lock up a pass rusher and drive them over the pile. Plays square and can wall off secondary blitzers. Plays with good knee bend. He plays on his feet and can get push in short yardage and on the goal line. Agile enough to pull up the field and block a support safety. Lacks confidence in his lower body. Plays soft at times, can be jostled by more physical defenders. Tries to mirror when he should be trying to punch. Will over extend. Has a hard time regaining balance if he loses it. Was a big time high school basketball player, winning a Mr. Basketball award in 2011 as a senior. McDermott has tools that don’t come around very often. He is a better athlete than he is on tape, but lacks the confidence to trust it. He bails on his technique too often which makes him look horrific at times. If he can be put into the right system and really hone in on strength gains, there is a potential here that most tackles simply do not have. He is a risk, but one with a high potential reward. Senior Bowl notes: Angular long tackle with big hands and long arms. Good use of hands. A light-footed well balanced athlete. Keeps his hips low and his hands active. Good second level blocker. Takes good angles. Must work to bend. OSR:4/41. Third/fourth round. (A-34, H-10 7/8, BP-DNP, 10-1.83).
