Two-year starter, Traverse City, MI. Two-time All-Big 10. Member of two straight Joe Moore Award winning offensive lines. Despite having relatively short arms, he does not have many losses on tape in pass protection. Plain and simple, he plays hard. There is a heaviness to his contact when striking the opponent and he plays a brand of football that gets the most out of himself. Notices all the tricks and trades, competes through the whistle, and puts plenty of attention on the little details on and off the field. Penalized just six times in four years. May have an overall talent shortcoming, but guys like this have a tendency to play longer in the league than many drafted ahead of him. Will stay square to his target. A heavy-handed latch. Can lock himself on while maintaining active feet. Keeps head on a swivel. A nasty and effective run blocker that excels in a short space. Can get across the face of defenders and stay attached. There are multiple issues within his pass block repertoire that can get exposed against pros more than they did in college. Lack of arm length and explosion could create plenty of losses on the edge against pro rushers. Footwork and balance did not respond well to playing on the right side at Senior Bowl. Needs more core strength to improve anchor. No matter what position Hayes ends up at, the guarantee will be he will hit his ceiling and provide extra attitude to the offensive line.

3rd/4th round.
