Five-year starter, Portland, OR. Three-time first team All-Pac 12 and a 2022 All-America. It seems Kirkland has been around forever. After his redshirt season in 2017, he started all 14 games in 2018 at right guard and stayed there for 2019 despite missing some time due to injuries. Then spent two years at left tackle prior to returning inside, this time on the left side. For his final year he declared for the 2022 Draft but a slow-healing ankle injury that required surgery pushed him to go back to school. One of the most experienced linemen in the draft and played considerable snaps at three spots. His physical profile and play style initially look better at tackle, but he admittedly feels more comfortable at guard. Athletic lower half and holds his mass with ease and he’s well suited for a mauler-type role. Impressive pop out of his stance. Aggressive with big, strong hands that latch on tightly when he is properly lined up. Can mirror when he wins initially. His leggy movement in pass protection shows a delay when he tries to redirect. Does not anticipate well and recovery quickness is poor. Lateral footwork techniques do not match athleticism. Lacks rhythm. Pad level needs to be better for someone with a below average anchor. Needs to add more core strength. He turns 25 at the start of training camp and had multiple durability issues. He did not ascend the way many thought he would have after an impressive start to his career, but there is a quality and versatile backup here if he stays healthy. Versatility and experience are both a plus. Credibly projects to multiple spots.
