Three year starter, San Diego, CA. First team All-Mountain West in 2022. Skinner has outstanding length and height for the position and will draw comparisons to Kyle Hamilton. Versatile safety he has experience as a one and two high safety along with dropping down to flat coverage. Has also been used as an overhang big nickel. Has excelled as a deep safety and close to the line. Shows outstanding range in the deep zones along with downhill tracking ability. Has unique ability for a tall safety he moves well laterally and has twitch changing directions. Solid to diagnose run pass key he processes well and is sudden to react once he sees it. Explodes downhill in run support and has been effective slipping blocks on the move. Shows fundamentally sound tackling skill gathering, striking and driving through tackles. Has also made some big hits separating receivers from the ball. Primarily a zone defender he reads route combinations well and reacts quickly to the quarterback delivery key. As a flat defender his length creates problems for quarterbacks on high/low routes. He’s effective at finding the throwing lane. Uses his length and range to challenge the catch point and get his hands on balls. In the past he’s been more prone to making a big hit than playing the ball. His ball production has improved this year with some key interceptions in big games. In limited reps has shown match and mirror skill versus tight ends with the speed to cover deep vertical routes. As an aggressive player he can struggle with mis-direction. He will also take an occasional bad angle in pursuit. He’s high in his pedal and can be slow transitioning forward or laterally. With his tall physique he will expose himself to low blocks at times and has some struggles gathering on tackles. His fit is best in the box but has the tools of a versatile NFL safety.

2022 Stats: 64 T, .5 TFL, 4 PBU, 4 INT. 1st/2nd round.
