Two year starter, Tacoma, WA. Second team All-SEC in 2022. Physical corner with ideal length, twitch and speed. Has played a variety of coverage and technique. He’s adept at both zone and man coverage and has played hard corner press and deep outside zones. As a press man corner he mixed reactive press with a physical off-hand jam versus outside release. At times his jam can ride a receiver to the sideline. He normally shows patience ignoring the first move away from leverage and matches double moves off the line. He usually stays connected and can get hip to hip up the field. In off coverage he usually shows a shuffle rather than pedal and transitions easily to turn and run as cushion breaks. Adjusts to receivers change in tempo to maintain positioning. He can mirror route breaks of the shiftiest receivers and stays in phase versus vertical routes. As a zone defender he reads the quarterback’s delivery key along with balancing receivers in the zone. Fluid change of direction as there’s no wasted movement reacting. Sudden breaking on the throw. Flashes ball skills finding the catch point and high pointing interception opportunities. He wins most 50/50 battles with receivers. Solid fundamental tackling skill, he comes downhill in a hurry versus short throws and outside runs. Makes the plays in space. As good as he is he could get more interceptions as he seems to pass up a catch for a pass break at times. Can be too physical and get grabby leading to penalties. He showed some uncharacteristic inconsistency in reactions in 2022. At times allowed receivers to get up on his toes and was late flipping his hips. As a result he gave up more plays than expected. He still played at an elite level and has the tools of a top-flight NFL corner.
