Three year starter, Lewis Center, Ohio. Second team All-Big 10 in 2021 and honorable mention in 2022. Athletic prospect with imposing length. Plays with a high motor and flashes outstanding playmaking skill. Has played as a five and wide nine with success in both spots on the edge. Quick at the snap he can get into a blocker and uses his length and power to stun, separate and shed. Flashes ability to play with knee and ankle bend working through the block. When his hands get inside on the chest he can knock a blocker off balance and back. Shows decent lateral agility and speed to make plays from tackle to the perimeter. Powerful tackler, he drives through tackles in chase mode. As a pass rusher shows a variety of moves and has used an inside counter versus oversetting tackles. Uses his hands and long arms to swipe away a blocker’s hands and is effective with a quick arm under move. Shows a degree of sinking hips to bend and squeeze to the quarterback. Uses a quick burst to get around the corner after disengaging from a block. Has speed to adjust and chase scrambling quarterbacks. He’s been effective using his long arms to get balls out while tackling. There is inconsistency in pad level and if he doesn’t get his hands inside on the blocker he can be knocked upright and neutralized. At this point he has to win early because if he’s stalled he doesn’t reload quickly. Some stiffness in changing direction will show up in short space. His length and speed will be attractive as someone to develop into a solid edge defender. Best fit should be as a 4-3 end.
