Two-year starter, Ashtabula, OH. Two-time All-Big 10. Spent one season at center full time with prior experience at both guard spots. The versatility will be his calling card at the next level, as his tool set can fit into all the interior spots. He does not grade well enough for a projected starting role, but his value as a sixth or seventh lineman is worth a look. Plays a powerful, but rigid game. He may not be a fit for all schemes, in particular outside-zone dependent, but he can hold the point and control a gap. Does not pass every athleticism test, but he is smart and dependable. Strong anchor that can root into the ground and hold the point. Excelled against the bull rush. Active pre-snap, capable of seeing the defense and making calls. Hands get inside and can latch on. Will fight for positioning, remains hungry. Lateral movement is labored and heavy. Loses his knee bend will fold at the waist when moving east/ west. Struggles to efficiently moves his hips into the hole, leaving the outside shoulder vulnerable. Foot speed does not match up with his eyes. Scruggs is a tone setting, powerful blocker who can back up multiple interior spots on the line, albeit with an athletically limited ceiling.
