Three-year starter, Richland Hills, TX. Two-time All-AAC and a 2022 All-America. Set the all-time school record for single season receiving yards last year. Has been the number one pass catcher on this team for three straight years. But it was his final run that stood out the most. Playing on a bad foot for most of the year, Rice was used in a different way, seeing more downfield looks, and he nearly doubled his previous single season high in yards. Specializes in ball skills and making the difficult look easy. The body control and contact-strength he shows in traffic with the ball in the air is special. There are issues with some of the other skill-components to his game, mainly route running. He is far from a finished product and there is a boom or bust feel to his game. The right coach can mold him into a solid number two receiver who can impact every level of the route tree. Plus-length and hand size widens his radius. Strong presence with good muscle tone head to toe. Plays a tough, hard-nosed brand that will out-physical most defensive backs. Has a pair of late hands that adjust at the final instant with good coordination. Will make up for a passer’s mistakes. A good security blanket. Has the build up speed to get through the top of the secondary. Will bully receivers after the catch. Needs to sharpen his routes. Separation issues stem from poor techniques in and out of breaks. Does not play sudden enough. Had issues with concentration drops and fumbles in 2022. Has the ability to make plays on the ball at a high level with a blend of size and toughness, but he has a long way to go before he can be considered a dependable every down player.
