Three year starter, Janesville, WI. Third team All-Big 10 in 2022. Has length, size, a powerful frame and upper body strength. Played nose tackle in a traditional 3-4 defense and was primarily a zero technique. Normally gives a great effort and much more than a space eater. He’s strong at the point of attack and is difficult to move. Can anchor against double teams and has quick, strong hands to separate from blocks. When he plays with leverage can stack and shed blocks and work laterally down the line. Shows a quick arm over move to penetrate a gap working against a single block. Versus one on one blocks he’s a solid two gap player who can hold the point or penetrate and chase. As a pass rusher he is a push the pocket guy who can get his hands in the throwing lane. Has the ability to escape a block and occasionally gets a sack with second effort. Uses power to bull rush but needs to develop consistent pass rush technique if he is to be more than a two down nose tackle. Needs consistency in pad level as he can get knocked upright and back at times. If a blocker gets into his frame he lacks a consistent counter move to avoid a stalemate. At this point his fit is as a 3-4 nose tackle who will be a rotational player. To be a factor in sub packages he will need to develop pass rush technique and consistency in pad level. The tools and potential are there and he could develop into a productive NFL starter.
