Junior entry, two year starter, Marietta, GA. First team All-SEC in 2022. Athletic, versatile defender who has aligned as an outside linebacker, edge and inside pass rusher. Possesses leadership skills as he was named captain as a junior and was given LSU’s prestigious number 18. His brother Azeez was a second round pick of the Giants in 2021. He’s explosive at the snap with a quick powerful punch to separate from blocks. Plays at a good pad level with natural knee and ankle bend. Can hold a blocker at bay while locating the ball and then quickly shed with a club or dip and rip to get underneath the block. Is strong setting the edge and can chase to the perimeter. As a pass rusher he’s normally quick at the snap with a burst to close. Flashes a variety of moves and is adept at an arm under rip move to get around an offensive tackle. Can bend on the edge and adjust to the quarterback stepping up. Has a powerful bull rush into a move and can push a blocker into the quarterback. Flashes a quick inside counter move showing agility to escape in a short space. Has worked inside and is adept at inside gap stunts. Mostly used as a pass rusher but has zone coverage reps. He can reroute and take an inside receiver up the seam as well as drop to the flat and play underneath. Normally an effective tackler in space but will miss occasionally by hitting and not wrapping. Some inconsistency shedding blocks as quick powerful blockers can knock him upright and lock him up. He can also get washed out of a play by a powerful blocker on an inside stunt. Solid edge prospect, he fits well as a 3-4 outside linebacker.
2022 Stats: 57 T, 8 TFL, 5 sacks, 13 QBH, 1 FF. 1st/2nd round.
