Two-year starter, Antioch, CA. Consensus All-America in 2022. Powerful player with outstanding length for the position. Has experience in a two and three point stance along with some off the ball time. Played the Viper in the Notre Dame base defense which is a traditional 3-4 outside linebacker. Quick at the snap he flashes violent hands attacking blocks and is solid setting the edge versus the run. Turns his quickness into power and shows a jolt followed by an arm over club to escape on the move. Flashes a variety of escape moves. Normally plays with leverage both on the blocker and ball side. Decent agility in space he can chase and makes most tackles on the perimeter. Efficient drive through tackling skill. Has range in pursuit and is effective chasing on the back side. As a pass rusher shows a quick first step and uses his hands to keep blockers off. Shows a bull rush with extension into an arm under or push pull as part of his repertoire. Has twitch to counter back inside versus an overset. Not often used in coverage but can pick up flat release by a back and has speed to take a wheel route up the field. In zone coverage has shown he can get under the intermediate throw and break up to flat routes. High cut he has some stiffness changing direction in tight spaces. Lacks elite bend and squeeze around the edge which can allow a quarterback a fraction more time to step up and elude. Has some trouble maintaining pad level against quality tackles and can get locked upright. Has had some quiet games against NFL caliber tackles. The tools are there but needs some development to play against NFL tackles.
