Three-year starter, Las Vegas, NV. Spent two years at San Diego University before transferring to Utah in 2020. FCS All-America in 2019, FBS All-America in 2022 in addition to two-time All-Pac 12 honoree. Long, muscular frame with room to add weight. Played both inline and as a flex tight end as well as split out. At his best as a receiver in space. A focal receiving threat on all levels who utilizes great separation quickness, foot speed, and hip fluidity to win in space as a route-runner. Displays soft hands at the catch point, and utilizes great physicality and body control to win contested catches and fight for yards after contact. Will hold onto catches through contact. Just a 1.6% career drop rate, an incredibly rare number. A lethal weapon with the ball downfield utilizing his unique combination of size and speed to create mismatches versus defensive backs. As a blocker he shows athleticism to climb to the second level in zone and gap schemes. Utilizes hand placement and physical toughness to execute blocks at the point-of-attack versus nickels and linebackers. Excellent as a puller utilizing his athleticism and foot speed to effectively insert or slide across the formation and meet defenders at the perimeter of the box. Shows desire to win as a run blocker and in pass protection. Has competitiveness and nastiness to drive defenders to the ground. Displays a strong motor to consistently compete at a high level. Needs more functional strength to win as a blocker at the first level, and to handle edge rushers in pass protection. Does not stay attached to blocks and lacks an anchor at the point of attack. When inline, shows fringe ability to maintain leverage on edge defenders and create push at the line-of-scrimmage. At this point his value is as a receiving tight end and developmental blocker.
2022 Stats: 70-890, 12.7 ypr, 8 TD. 1st/2nd round.
