Texas Tech | H: 6054 W: 271 40: 4.75 A: 3558 H: 0958 W: 8412
Three year starter, Henderson, TX. Transferred from Texas A&M in 2020 after playing there as a redshirt freshman. First team All-Big 12 in 2022. An imposing athlete with over the top length and power. At 275 he still is somewhat linear due to his height. Has played all over the Texas Tech defensive front aligning as a five, four, four-i and three in a three point and a wide nine in a two point. Flashes snap quickness on passing downs and is powerful engaging blockers. Long arms allow him to punch and separate versus a guard or tackle. He can hold a blocker at bay while locating the ball. Sets the edge as a run defender showing knee and ankle bend to get leverage versus a block. Above average agility and lateral movement allow him to make plays on the perimeter. As a pass rusher he can get into an offensive lineman and bull rush him back to the quarterback or into a move. Has improved his pass rush plan showing a push-pull, arm over and under most coming off a powerful strike with his hands. Has been effective as an interior pass rusher pushing the pocket. As he’s somewhat high cut he can get a little hung up at times changing direction. Can get upright on blocks losing leverage and stalemated out of a play. Has to consistently sink his hips to take advantage of his power. Can be late at the snap and that further compounds the problem. Has improved in those areas and has flashed what an NFL team wants in a versatile defensive linemen. Fits as a defensive end with the capacity to kick inside in sub packages. His raw power and massive length could put him in the first round.
2022 Stats: 61 T, 14 TFL, 7 sacks, 8 QBH, 1 FF. 1st/2nd round.
