Junior entry, one year starter, Gainesville, FL. A career that started off in the Covid season and the decision to play Emory Jones in front of him in 2021, Richardson had to oddly wait until 2022 to get the full-time starting job for the Gators. It was his lone full season atop the depth chart, thus he enters the league with 13 starts under his belt. When looking at the combination of elite tools that he has put into motion on multiple occasions, it is hard to see just how high the ceiling is from where he currently stands. Has the body of a tight end, the speed of a receiver, and the contact balance of a running back. Rare body for the position that is usually found in the linebacker room. Functional, twitchy thickness with elite power and stability. Takes hits and will remain unfazed. Has the contact balance of an established running back and breaks tackles like one too. Can put the ball on a rope to every point. Simple, explosive release with a consistent spin. Easily alters his arm angle when needed and it shows no impact on the rotation of the ball. Has and can make every NFL throw naturally. Keeps his eyes downfield among chaos in the pocket. The Florida offense had components of traditional NFL offenses and he has experience reading the triangle. Patient to go through reads and knows when to tuck and run. He compliments that with top-shelf arm strength and a lightning-quick release that produces a tight spiral throw after throw. His inconsistent ball placement and footwork are fixable, but the near-blank canvas will present a lot of risk. There is a lot of unknown simply because he did not get on the field enough in college and the track record for quarterbacks in this situation is not a good one. Can be slow to process but shows the ability to find vacancy in the defense both as a runner and passer. Lack of experience leaves several questions unanswered. Needs to clean up the footwork which has led to accuracy and ball placement issues. Too often air mails the ball. Fifteen career interceptions on just 395 pass attempts. Too reliant on momentum. Will spiral out of control and carry one bad series to the next. Needs more mental fine-tuning to improve within adversity on the field. Will make poor decisions on the move throwing back into traffic. Too many head-scratcher decisions. There is no denying the rare talent and upside Richardson brings to the table, but the contrast between his good and bad combined with a lack of experience makes him a tremendous boom or bust prospect.
