Ourlads' Profile:
2019 Guide: What Ourlads' Scouting Services said about TJ EDWARDS: Wisconsin, 6003 230 4.85. Four year starter from Lake Villa, IL. Productive and instinctive, Edwards consistently makes accurate reads and can get downhill or move laterally to fit inside gaps. Solid change of direction adjusting to cutbacks and misdirection. Normally solid fitting inside to off-tackle gaps. Cuts off backside running lanes with patience maintaining leverage to the ball. Plays with a strong power base and balance attacking a block. Uses his hands to stun and separate to get through blocks. Solid fundamental tackling skill with the ability to tackle in space. At his best playing from tackle to tackle but flashes a burst to get to the perimeter. Aware in zone pass coverage seeing threats, adjusting to pattern pressure and the quarterback. Balances routes in underneath zones and has a knack for getting in the throwing lane. Quick break on the throw gets him to a lot of balls. Flashes inside blitz skill with a burst to close. Struggles some with straight up blocks. Can be slow to shed and can lose leverage on the block. Occasionally gets on the wrong side of a block working to the perimeter and is walled off. Lacks the speed to consistently get to the edge. A solid zone defender, he will have to show man-to-man skills. Edwards does most things well but not much sticks out as outstanding. He can be a solid backup/special team player who won’t hurt you as a starter. 2018 stats: 113 T, 11.5 TFL, 3 sacks, 2 PBU, 3 QBH. Did not work out at Combine. Sixth/seventh round.
