Played quarterback as a freshman and sophomore starting seven games as a freshman. Made a successful conversion to linebacker as a junior showing impressive development into a top flight starter. An instinctive player with athleticism. Quick fitting inside gaps he gets downhill with solid angles to the ball. Scrapes off tackle to outside with range to fill the alley and get to the perimeter. Fluid changing directions he can react in space keeping leverage on the ball. Aggressive attacking blocks, flashes ability to stun and separate. In coverage is quick with pass read and gets into his drop with depth. Displays an understanding of zone concepts seeing threats and reacting to the quarterback delivery key. Consistently finds the throwing lane on high/low routes. Often forces bad throws or quarterback to come off a read. Shows match up skill and this was on display at the Senior Bowl practices. Has been used as an inside and outside blitzer and has been extremely productive getting to the quarterback. Has closing speed to chase. Still a work in progress as there is some inconsistency in angles to the alley as he sometimes opens up a cutback. Has some trouble with powerful blockers getting into his frame. Needs to consistently get leverage on blocks and shed on the move. While he makes a lot of tackles there are times where he will catch a tackle or miss overrunning. He needs to consistently time his gather and finish. He has improved and still has upside. Fits as an inside linebacker in any NFL scheme and figures to be an every down player. 2020 stats: 91 T, 7.5 TFL, 6 sacks, 3 PBU, 6 QBH, 1 FF, 1 INT. Third/fourth round.
