2022 Guide: What Ourlads’ NFL Scouting Services said about JA’TYRE CARTER:
Southern, 6033 311 5.13. Fourth year junior, two-year starter, White Castle, LA. Earned second-team All-SWAC honors in 2021 at left tackle. When it comes to a long-term projection, Carter has the tools and developing skill set of a player that could progress on a steeper curve than most prospects. Got a late start on the football field in high school after an accomplished basketball career. Then transitioned from tight end to the offensive line when he got to Southern. The straight line burst and overall athleticism along with sturdy contact presence give plenty of cause for optimism down the road. Needs to live in the weight room and enhance his understanding of the game, but a year on the practice squad could end up paying a huge dividend within his rookie contract. Athletically gifted, borderline explosive talent that is still early on the progression scale. Gets the job done despite not having a natural feel for the position. Has a straight line burst that can create power. A good hands-fighter with urgency in his pass pro sets. Can reposition his hands without losing track of his base. Can reach block to reach the five technique in the running game. Understands angles and spacing. Inconsistent footwork and knee bend as a pass blocker. Will over-set and lose his ability to adjust. Still behind when it comes to sustainable power and anchor. Does not have a violent punch.
OSR:31/51. Seventh round/PFA. (A-33 5/8, H-10 1/4, BP-DNP, 10-1.77).
