Ourlads' Profile:
2022 Guide: What Ourlads’ NFL Scouting Services said about MONTARIC BROWN:
Arkansas, 6003 196 4.55. Three-year starter, Ashdown, AR. First-team All-SEC in 2021. Has solid length and strength for the position. Experience in a variety of coverage including off and press man and Cover two, three and quarters. At his best as a zone defender with excellent route processing skill. Reacts to multiple threats and quarterback delivery key with a knack to get in the throwing lane. Excellent ball skills, his quick read on the quarterback gets him to the catch point and he wins most 50/50 battles. Smooth hands and catch radius he gets to balls from a distance. As a hard corner, baits quarterbacks into short throws and is quick to break up and keep any gain short. Adept at closing voids between zones. In off coverage, pedal is quick and he often sticks a vertical route break with a stiff off-hand jam. Takes on blocks with strong hands and is quick to shed stalk blocks. Solid tackling skill he comes in low and drives through tackles. Makes plays in space. Struggles with quick route breaks in man coverage. Double moves have been a problem versus shifty receivers and he is prone to lose leverage at the line. Lacks recovery speed if a receiver breaks down space and gets by him. Brown’s future in the NFL is most likely scheme dependent as he excels as a zone defender and is marginal in man. Could project to safety for some teams based on ball hawking skill and ability to play the run.
