Ourlads' Profile:

2022 Guide: What Ourlads’ NFL Scouting Services said about CALVIN AUSTIN III:

Memphis, 5076 170 4.32. Two-year starter, Memphis, TN. Was also a key return specialist. Earned first-team All-AAC honors in both 2020 and 2019. Was also a member of the school’s track and field team where he earned multiple all-conference honors and was a 2019 All-America. Was a nine-time state champion in high school on the track in several events. Will enter the league and immediately become one of the fastest players on the field every Sunday. What makes him different is the suddenness and functional movement traits that show up on the field in multiple versions. He is a dangerous returner, gets off press coverage with quickness, and can run routes with precision. His size and lack of natural ball skills will show up from time to time and will prevent him from being a steady and consistent player. However, a team that needs more juice on their offense will be able to use Austin’s speed to create opportunities for the offense as a whole right away and he should make an impact on special teams. Elite level speed and quickness. More than a vertical one trick pony. Has the loose, but powerful lower half to shake off a press corner with ease. Couple that with top shelf acceleration and top end speed. Will not be caught from behind. Tracks the deep ball over his shoulder with proper balance and control. Has proven to be a threat after the catch and as a returner. Can create big plays if he is given just the slightest window. Elite suddenness shows up in multiple areas. Will not be able to escape the significant size shortcoming. Small catch radius and sub-par ball skills will further shorten his impact on a passing game. Too many balls that he allows into his body. Does not always maintain his speed when tracking the deep pass. Does not shake or break a lot of tackles.

2021 stats: 74-1149, 15.5 ypc, 8 TD, 5-135 PR, 27.0 avg, 1 TD. OSR:3/33. Third/fourth round. (A-30, H-9 1/4, VJ-39, SS-4.08).
