Iowa State, 6064 252 4.75. Three-plus year starter, Norman, OK. Earned first-team All-Big 12 honors the past three seasons in addition to third-team All-America honors in both 2019 and 2020. An award-winning student as well, Kolar fits the mold of the “Y” tight end perfectly. His size from any and every angle is top tier and he proved to be a reliable pass catcher that can be a key component to an air attack. The lack of speed and burst could limit the routes and depth of target he brings to the table, but his success in traffic over the years means something. Does not have standout athletic traits and he needs to learn how to block with more urgency and toughness, but his floor is very high. He will be a starter or second tight end who sees the field a lot. A sure thing to at least be usable and reliable week to week. Elite frame for the position. Tall and long with a wide frame and extra-large hands. The size is functional as a receiver. Excels in traffic and comes away with the ball when he gets his hands on it. Will box out defenders like a power forward that leads the league in rebounds. A pure hands-catcher who will extend for the ball and play strong against contact. Quality footwork and attention to detail will make him play faster than he times. Has some suddenness to him as gets in and out of breaks. Can get solid initial contact as a blocker. Does not get up the seam fast enough to pose as a credible downfield threat. Get-off and burst looks lethargic. Blocking performance lacks grit and hand strength. Does not latch on or play through the whistle. Plays smaller than his size indicates.
