Ourlads' Profile:
2022 Guide: What Ourlads’ NFL Scouting Services said about MARTIN EMERSON:
Mississippi State, 6015 201 4.53. Junior entry, two-year starter, Pensacola, FL. Second-team All-SEC in 2021. Long corner with a slender build. Has experience in Cover three, quarters and Cover two along with press and off-man. In press he uses his length to stab the release and disrupt the timing of the route. Rarely gives up leverage at the line. Solid playing trail technique and mirroring route breaks. Closes windows in man coverage reacting to route breaks. Combining decent speed with his length he can stay with deep vertical routes. Shows a burst to crowd a route to the sideline. As a zone defender does a nice job with route combinations and closes voids between zones. Sees the threats and the quarterback. Adept at playing multiple routes in outside zones. Creates problems for quarterbacks with his ability to balance receivers. As a hard corner can reroute and flip his hips to work under an intermediate route. Gets a great read on the delivery key and plays up to the short route with a sudden plant and drive limiting gains on flat throws. Covers ground extremely well, closing from a distance. Has made several tackles at the line or in the backfield on short hitches and flares. Can be explosive tackling and makes some big hits driving through ball carriers. Not the most physical attacking blocks, he tends to stop on contact. Lacks ball skills and has some trouble locating in phase. With the play in front of him makes a lot more tackles than plays on the ball. Will take an occasional bad angle. Will lunge at tackles on occasion and shoestring or miss. Emerson has length and upside to be a starting corner in the NFL. Has kick cover ability and should contribute early on special teams.
2021 stats: 49 T, 3 TFL, 3 PBU. OSR:19/32. Third/fourth round. (A-33 1/2, H-10 1/8, VJ-32, SS-4.14).
