Cincinnati, 6006 206 4.60. One-year starter, Cincinnati, OH. Also started for two years at Howard. First-team All-AAC in 2021. Transferred from FCS Howard in 2019 and sat out due to transfer rules. Cook was a revelation his first year starting for the Bearcats. He has good size and plays with a tough aggressive demeanor. Was ideal as a Cover four safety and handled all assignments well. Excels in run support from one high or in the box. Tracks downhill with quickness and leverages tackles in space. Normally drives through tackles and drops ball carriers in their tracks. In the box shows linebacker-like instincts chasing and playing the run. In coverage he plays a lot of one high and quarters. Processed most route combinations seeing the route and the quarterback delivery key. Was solid matching in quarters. Has a knack for playing dig and post routes and taking away the throwing lane. Made some nice plays on the ball flipping his hips reacting to the quarterback and route. Played corner early in his career and flashed match ability versus inside receivers. Has some inconsistency tackling as he will catch at times and lose the tackle. Needs to drive through every time. Needs to consistently shoot the hands attacking blocks. At times gets locked up. Extended speed is a question as he was coming downhill so much and played the box often. Testing will be important to his draft status. He is still a little raw in the nuances of safety play with only one year starting there. Will be attractive to a team that plays a lot of quarters coverage.
