Nebraska, 5105 196 4.38. Three-year starter, Montgomery, AL. Second-team All-Big 10 in 2021. Strong muscular corner who has been a starting safety as well as corner for the Huskers. Has played a variety of coverage including quarters, Cover three and man. He has spent a lot of time in the box as a nickel back. Quick footwork he is fluid to pedal, turn and lateral run keeping proper space on a receiver’s release up the field. Has top end speed to stay with fast receivers on vertical routes. Has recovery speed and has made some plays from behind. Sudden plant and drive with the play in front. Sees threats and the quarterback and closes the overlap in zones. Reacts well to the quarterback delivery key with no hesitation. As a slot corner or nickel, he is a solid flat defender playing under intermediate routes and driving on the short throw. Excellent ball skills he can extend to the catch point. Has made some big hits and plays on the ball on throws to the intermediate and short flat. Has been used to blitz from the nickel position and has been effective timing the snap and closing in the backfield. Can be physical tackling coming from low to high exploding into ball carriers. Takes on blocks with strong hands and can stack and shed an inside receiver in the alley. Not as strong playing man-to-man and he needs consistent eye discipline. Often sneaks a peek at the quarterback and gets separated. Has trouble with double moves. Will take an occasional bad angle in pursuits and lose the play. Plays a little out of control at times. Speed and versatility are attractive. Projects to sub package and special teams early.
