Ourlads' Profile:
2022 Guide: What Ourlads’ NFL Scouting Services said about SAM WILLIAMS:
Mississippi, 6035 261 4.46. Three-year starter, Montgomery, AL. Spent two years at Northeast Mississippi Community College. Capped off his career in 2021 finishing second in the SEC in sacks, earning first-team All-SEC and third-team All-America honors. On the field, Williams has the play style of a rush linebacker who can fit into both 3-4 and 4-3 fronts. Should be a situational pass rusher early in his career while coaches try to refine his run game deficiencies. The elite burst and speed combine with plus-length and hand work to give opposing blockers fits. Needs to play with a more consistent motor and sense of urgency. The stretches of poor effort and lack of effectiveness in the running game should throw some caution into the grade but the pass rush ceiling is through the roof. Top shelf get-off with the next gear to seal the deal rushing the edge. Has the capability of getting under the pads of a blocker and good enough length to keep them away from his chest plate. Shows natural knee and ankle flexion to alter his pad level while turning a tight corner. Shows advanced hand work when it comes to rush moves. Can play with different gears based on angles and situations. A quick reactor to the action. Goes after the ball as he approaches the quarterback. Can pivot and redirect in pursuit of the run with urgency. Closes a five-to-ten-yard gap in a blink. Takes too many plays off where he seems completely uninterested. Does not show any man strength of grit against run blockers. Succumbs to the double team too soon. Lacks the awareness and staying power to control gap integrity. Needs to have a plan as a pass rusher. Has significant off-field issues that will need extra screening.
2021 stats: 57 T, 16 TFL, 12.5 sacks, 1 PBU, 8 QBH, 4 FF, 1 FR (1 TD). Edge speed:left 2.26, right 2.38. OSR:9/36. Third/fourth round. (A-33 1/8, H-9 7/8, BP-25, 10-1.60).
