Ourlads' Profile:
2022 Guide: What Ourlads’ NFL Scouting Services said about TYQUAN THORNTON:
Baylor, 6023 181 4.21. Three-year starter, Miami, FL. Earned second-team All-Big 12 recognition in 2021 and honorable mention in 2019. A former accomplished track star, Thornton is going to bring an element of speed and big play potential to the table right away. He is a smooth accelerator that maintains quality body control as he tracks the ball downfield. Has concentration as he approaches the ball with his hands. There needs to be some more versatility to his game, notably after the catch and as an underneath route runner. Not overly physical or strong, and that will need time to develop, but there are some sneaky-high end traits here worth taking a shot on day three. Long and lean frame with the kind of top end speed that can take the top off a defense. Can knife through the secondary, track the throw without losing any body control, and attack the ball with his hands. Has a level of smoothness when maneuvering around defensive backs in a phone booth. Easily twists and turns to the ball to maximize his potential reach. Spatially aware and smart. Reads the action well and gives the passer enough space to work with. Too easily thrown off his point by physical corners. Will need to strengthen his presence against contact. Needs to show more underneath as an immediate, sudden route runner.
2021 stats: 62-942, 15.2 ypr, 10 TD. OSR:5/33. Fourth/fifth round. (A-33 1/4, H-8 1/4, VJ-36.5, SS-4.39).
