Ourlads' Profile:
2022 Guide: What Ourlads’ NFL Scouting Services said about JOHN METCHIE III:
Alabama, 5112 187 4.36. Junior entry, two-year starter, Brampton, Canada. Also started four games as a freshman because of injuries. Earned second-team All-SEC in 2021. In a very crowded wide receiver room, Metchie caught 151 passes in 26 games. Built like a slot receiver, his inside-out versatility will help him get on the field early. The play speed and burst can make things happen after the catch. He did not make a lot of deep catches over his career, but he can do a lot of damage within the short to intermediate portions of the route tree. While his top end potential may not be high, his impact within a quality passing game can be strong off the bat. He plays fast, moves with power, and is still developing the overall skill set that has shown quality flashes throughout his career. Thick build for the position with some extra meat below the waist, providing strong and stable movement in and out of cuts. Tremendous foot speed that will show up in multiple facets. Can make his turns tight and crisp. A friendly underneath target who can out-quick defenders to run himself open. Fast to grab the ball and move north. Has the suddenness and acceleration to make things happen with the ball in his hands. Not afraid of contact. Will break plenty of tackles with his low center of gravity and toughness. Lacks an ideal catch radius especially when he lines up on the outside. Low success rate when being covered by bigger defensive backs in high traffic situations. Needs some work on his release against physical press corners. Lacks some fluid bendability to miss contact at the point of attack.
2021 stats: 96-1142, 11.9 ypr, 8 TD. Second/third round. (A-30 5/8, H-9 1/4, VJ-DNP, SS-DNP).
