Ourlads' Profile:
2022 Guide: What Ourlads’ NFL Scouting Services said about KAIIR ELAM:
Florida, 6014 191 4.39. Junior entry, two-year starter, Riviera Beach, FL. First-team All-SEC in 2020. Missed some time with injuries last fall. Big physical corner with experience in off and press man along with outside third and quarters zone coverage. Primarily played boundary corner. As a press corner he’s adept at an off-hand jam to control the release and disrupt initial route break. Normally handles double moves and maintains leverage. Can lock receivers out on the sideline. Mirrors cuts and stays in phase up the field. Plays trail technique with proper distance and reactions. In off coverage, shows a quick pedal and ability to maintain cushion. Can be sudden coming out of his pedal and reacting on the throw. In the deep outside, plays with zone awareness and can balance multiple receivers while reading the quarterback. Outstanding ball skills he is adept at reacting to the receiver’s hands at the catch point. When he has a receiver locked out on a vertical route he can find the ball and get his hands on it. Times reactions extremely well and has been productive getting to the ball with interceptions and pass breaks. Flashes ability in run support and doesn’t shy away from contact. He makes a lot of tackles on the perimeter. Doesn’t always gather on tackles and can overextend and lunge and miss at times. Occasionally bites on a first move and whiffs on a jam versus a shifty receiver. False steps at times reacting causing him to lose leverage or create separation. Plays well in recovery mode but needs consistency in reactions and footwork as part of his development long term. Technique was a little sloppy at times and was beaten deep more than he should in 2021. Has the tools of a solid NFL prospect.
2021 stats: 29 T, 1.5 TFL, 5 PBU, 1 INT. OSR:8/32. First/second round. (A-30 7/8, H-8 7/8, VJ-DNP, SS-DNP).
