Ourlads' Profile:

2022 Guide: What Ourlads’ NFL Scouting Services said about CHARLES CROSS:

Mississippi State, 6046 307 4.93. Third year sophomore entry, two-year starter, Laurel, MS. Earned first-team All-SEC honors in 2021. Has all the tools and on-field intelligence to be a starting tackle in the league. His size and athletic ability look natural and easy. Has a calmness about him in pass protection that is hard to find. Rarely does he seem off balance or out of control even when he needs to adjust his weight and intentions at the final moment. There are some brute strength and power issues that show up in the running game, but if he continues on the track we have seen with his body development over the last three years, he should bridge the gap in that department soon enough to be considered one of the top tackles in the league. He can already do things against speed, quickness, and scheme-complexity that many pros cannot. His upside is as high as any offensive lineman in the draft. Possesses the prototype-frame for the position. Long and athletic body with proper weight distribution. Will be able to hold more weight as he continues to physically develop in a pro strength program. Easy lower body bend and agility. Natural kick slide up the edge while putting his attention on hand battling. Bends easily at the knees with plus-ankle flexion. Stays square to his man with proper hand positions. Works hard to get his hand to the chest plate of the defender to maximize his control of the engagement. Assignment-savvy and intelligent. Seamlessly rotates his attention and weight against stunts and twists. Rarely over-commits to the outside. Can plant his outside foot and shift his power to his inside naturally. Handles speed and quickness exceptionally well. Stays within himself and trusts his footwork. Needs more upper body mass and strength. Lacks a quality push in the run game. Too often will get stood up at or behind the line of scrimmage. Shows some weakness against the bull rush, gives up too much ground and thins the pocket. Need to see more aggression out of him with the initial punch. Will get too grabby with his hands when the defender gets away from him, susceptible to holding penalties. Needs more urgency out of his stance.

OSR:13/51. First round. (A-34 1/2, H-10 3/4, BP-DNP, 10-1.73).
