A two year walk-on Cashman came late to the party as a backup last year and former defensive back. Inserted in the middle he thrived as a playmaker with sideline to sideline range. Quick to react initially he shows a burst downhill and makes plays in the backfield. Has recovery speed and quickness if out of position. Quick change of direction and adjustments on the move. At his best chasing in pursuit. Gathers well on tackles and rarely misses in space. Explosive tackler with good gather and finish. Makes plays in space. Flashes blitz skill with a sudden first step to hit a gap. Has a closing burst and makes plays in the backfield. Excellent run/pass read with a fast smooth drop in the short zones. Can cover down on a slot, reroute and get into a drop. Senses pattern pressure and balances routes in the underneath zones. Reacts quickly on the delivery key and can cover ground with the ball in the air. Somewhat raw in technique as he does not always react to blocks on the move. Not the best taking on blocks and he is too easily walled off. Lacks consistent hand use making run fits. A medical question may affect status.
