Brother of former 49er Eric Reid. Athletic and fluid movements. Plays in the box, nickel, and free safety. Has good change of direction and range in pursuit. Can chase down a back across the field. Does not always show the intensity necessary in run support when in the box. Will give up on a play at times. Has good instincts and fits in the alley but is not always physical taking on blocks as he tends to let blockers into his body. Flashes playmaking skill blowing up a block and making a big tackle for a loss. Good tackling skill close to the line. Will miss in space at times lunging at a tackle. As a nickel has match-up skill and the speed to stay with a slot on a vertical route. Lacks consistent eye discipline as his eyes often drift to the quarterback instead of keeping his focus on the receiver. As a result he is often separated on crossing routes and intermediate cuts. Gives up more plays than his skill level dictates. Has good recovery ability. Solid zone defender as he can see the threats and quarterback. Good range in the short zones getting underneath a deeper intermediate route. Good ball skills for the interception. Gets to the high point and has good hands. Closes well with range in the deep zones. He has the speed and athletic ability needed to be a two-way safety in the NFL. Has some holes but has the tools to develop.
