Ourlads' Profile:

2021 Guide: What Ourlads' NFL Scouting Services said about KHALIL HERBERT: Virginia Tech, 5087 204 4.50. One-year starter, Fort Lauderdale, FL. Spent four years at Kansas before grad-transferring to Virginia Tech. Earned third-team All ACC honors, finishing second in the conference in rushing. Averaged just under eight yards per carry over his final two seasons. He is one of the best backs, if not the best, in the entire class at gaining yards after contact. Has a stout, muscular frame but can move with plenty of twitch and a surprising level of burst. Physically, Herbert has it. Mentally, he shows advanced ability when it comes to reading the defense and reacting to it. His vision is a major plus. He didn’t show much as a receiver and there are occasions he gets a little too east/ west when he shouldn’t. He put the ball on the turf just one time over his 500+ carry career in college. This is a starting-caliber back that will produce in multiple ways within the running game no matter what scheme he is put into. Excellent vision and burst combination as he approaches the line. Will hit a high gear the instant he gets the ball. Plus-ankle flexibility to enable his subtle but important change of direction. Will miss contact by defenders with late twist and turns while maintaining his top speed. Shoots out of the cannon and will play faster than he times. Has the open field speed to run away from the defense. Physical, low-to-ground runner that will consistently pick-up extra yards after contact. Pushes piles and breaks tackles routinely. Will get too dependent on the jump cut. Needs to be more decisive when it comes to north/south versus east/west decisions. Will get a little too hoppy. Long speed is average. Was never a key piece to the passing game, averaged well under one reception per game over his career. 2020 stats: 1182 yds, 7.7 ypc, 8 TD, 10 rec, 179 yds, 17.9 ypr, 1 TD. Fourth/fifth round. (A-30 1/ 8, H-8 5/8, BP-22, SS-4.34).
