Ourlads' Profile:

2021 Guide: What Ourlads' NFL Scouting Services said about BRANDIN ECHOLS: Kentucky, 5110 182 4.45. Two year starter, Southaven, MS. Transferred from Northwest Mississippi CC in 2019. Slightly undersized but has safety-like toughness. Played in zone heavy scheme with experience in quarters, Cover 2 and 3. Also has shown solid press man technique during his career. He can be disruptive as a press corner controlling a receiver’s release and staying in phase up the field. Has the agility to mirror route breaks and normally is sticky in man coverage. With quick feet in initial reaction he easily adjusts to changes in speed by receivers to maintain cushion. With outstanding lateral movement he closes voids quickly in zone coverage. As a hard corner he positions well on high/low routes and can get underneath an intermediate cut. Teams often attacked the outside with multiple routes which Echols balanced well. He was adept at closing off throwing lanes. Normally recovers if out of position. Quick reactions get him to a lot of big hits and plays on the ball. Solid in run support he takes on blocks with hands and can separate on the move. Tackles with some explosiveness and makes most plays in space. Has been used to blitz the edge and has made some big hits. There is some inconsistency with cushion in off coverage and at times will give too much cushion or let the cushion break down too easily. He has a somewhat segmented backpedal which seems to contribute to this. There are times he is too physical with receivers and ties up instead of working to the ball. Has had some personal fouls with activity after the whistle. He has shown solid return skill which will up his value. 2020 stats: 54 T, 2 TFL, 2 PBU, 1 INT. Fifth/sixth round. (A-30 1/4, H-9 1/8, VJ-42.5, SS-4.12).
